India Electricity 2009

Indian power sector needs huge capacity addition accros the value chain:

India is today the fifth largest global energy consumer. As one of the fastest growing economies, which is also home to world ' second highest population, India's energy demand is poised to follow a steep rise in future and so is the demand for oil , gas ,coal and most importantly for electricity.
By, 2012, the policymakers have articulated an ambitious vision for this core sector calling for:
  • Per capita availability 1000 units.
  • Installed capacity over 2,00,000 MW with spinning Reserves of 5%
  • Total Household Electrification
  • Minimum lifeline consumption of one unit per household per day.
  • Inter-regional transmission capacity 37,000 MW.
  • Energy efficienc y/ Conservation Savings of about 15%.
  • Quality and reliable power supply at affordable tarrifs.
